Your Legacy Is What You Leave Behind In Others - Kathryn W
As a Subaru retailer I find myself wanting to share how the Subaru Love Promise has transformed my view of benevolence. Specifically, how our charitable donations affect my community, my loyal customers, my amazing team of dedicated employees, my family and my fellow Subaru retailers. My story begins with my father, Gary Reynolds. In my father’s time as a retailer, it was not always encouraged or appreciated to talk about your charitable ways. It was more often that he would anonymously donate his time, his talents and his money to personal causes he held near and dear. Anonymous benevolence was the “right” way to give back to your community. He valued education and helped young people to have that opportunity regardless of their financial situation and was a well-known mentor to any young person looking for guidance and support. He valued serving on local boards to make a positive impact on the town he worked and called home. He served on both state and national committees to support the automotive industry for retailers and customer alike. His actions often aligned with his financial contributions, and without any consideration for personal gain but for the greater good. Reputation was built not bought. In time, witnessing his actions, it ingrained in me and my siblings that giving back was an opportunity to grow yourself and leave an enduring legacy. It became an integral part of our family’s story as a multi-generational family business. However, it was not until the Subaru Love Promise was introduced by Subaru of America that retailers, like us, allowed ourselves to share our benevolence with others. It was uncomfortable and difficult initially to embrace this unique idea. Our stories were short and few initially. It was not our culture to discuss our donations, let alone write about them. Asking someone else to write a story, just felt awkward. So how did we overcome our fear and embrace it? You might not know what exactly the Subaru Love Promise embodies. It’s an initiative Subaru of America created to show their commitment to demonstrate love and respect to all people and make a positive impact in the world. It involves allowing non-profit organizations and any recipient to share the story in their own words of how a specific Subaru retailer impacted their life or the lives of others. For the annual Share the Love event they added a hometown charity alongside their five national charities to further demonstrate the long-term commitment to the communities the retailers call home. To date retailers have donated to nearly 2,700 hometown charities. Fast forward to today. Every month I am inspired by retailer’s love promise stories. The vision Subaru of America had is making the world a better place in each love promise activation: 900,000 adults and children provided with urgent need items, over 130,00 children warmed with coats and shoes, over 400 national parks protected, 100,000 trees planted with Arbor Day Foundation, 700,000 animals supported and 950,000 students supported through adopt a classroom. They already knew all the good things retailers were doing and found a way to share it. It was a vision I could not initially see out of fear of judgement by others. Now I never take for granted the ability as a retailer to positively affect those around me and I am proud to talk about it. What I have learned is that I am not unique. My fellow Subaru retailers are generous and motivate me every day to do more and be more. Subaru of America motivates me to be more than an auto retailer. I am continuing my family’s legacy, and I hope you can join me to create your own legacy.
Save the Sound cleanup at Hammonasset Beach State Park - Annalisa P
Save the Sound thanks Reynolds Subaru for hosting a volunteer trash cleanup at Hammonasset Beach State Park this past September. We are grateful to them for coordinating this event and helping to make our local parks and waterways cleaner and safer for everyone!
Lyme Hunter Pace at Lord Creek Farm-Lyme Trails Association - Cheryl H
September is a glorious time of year in Lyme. Particularly for the many horse enthusiasts who enjoy taking part in the Lyme Hunter Pace at Lord Creek Farm. For over 25 years, this annual event has been a hallmark of the end of summer and celebration for the joys of trail riding in the fall. Participants enjoy riding a designated trail with a partner or two along the well-maintained scenic property along the Connecticut River. Originally established by the exuberant, passionate horsewoman and owner of Lord Creek Farm, Janie Davison, the Lord Creek Hunter Pace was designed as a fundraising event to benefit the Connecticut Valley Pony Club and High Hopes Therapeutic Riding, Inc. With her passing, and the establishment of the Lyme Trail Association, this educational and heartwarming tradition continues and now benefits all three nonprofit organizations. The generous support of Reynolds' Subaru is instrumental in the success of this important community event. Sponsorship support for this event from local companies, such as Reynolds' Subaru enables hundreds of community members to enjoy the trails of Lyme.
Reynolds Subaru CT Teams Up to Support Local Community - Nate R
Imagine going without a coat, shoes, or even socks. For millions of children and adults experiencing homelessness and other urgent need situations across the country, even here in Lyme, this is a harsh reality. Helping others strengthens communities, which is why Reynolds Subaru CT is partnering with Operation Warm®, a national nonprofit focused on connecting children with the resources they need to thrive. Through this partnership and other Subaru Loves to Help® efforts, Subaru and retailers like Reynolds Subaru CT have helped nearly 900,000 children and adults in urgent need. On 02/17/2025, Reynolds Subaru CT donated 300 coats to Valley Shore YMCA. These essential items not only help keep children protected, warm, and dry, it can have a significant impact on a child's mental and emotional well-being.
Reynolds Subaru Brings Comfort to Middlesex Health Cancer Center Through Subaru Loves to Care - Paige C
As part of the Subaru Loves to Care initiative in partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), Reynolds Subaru of Lyme proudly delivered 80 blankets to patients at the Middlesex Health Cancer Center. This meaningful donation was made to offer comfort, encouragement, and a reminder that no one fights alone. Every blanket represented more than warmth—it symbolized the care and compassion of a community that stands with those battling cancer. The Reynolds Subaru team was honored to personally deliver the blankets. This act of kindness is a reflection of Reynolds Subaru’s deep-rooted commitment to giving back and supporting those in need. Their participation in the Subaru Loves to Care initiative highlights the power of small gestures to make a big impact. By bringing hope and support to patients at Middlesex Health, Reynolds Subaru of Lyme continues to show that love is truly at the heart of everything they do.
The High Hopes Gala: A Celebration of Community, Connection, and Compassion - Hayley P
Each June, High Hopes Therapeutic Riding in Old Lyme, CT, hosts its largest and most impactful fundraising event of the year. This year’s gala, themed Summer Soirée, was truly one to remember, bringing together a community of supporters, volunteers, families, and friends. The event was nothing short of extraordinary. With over 600 guests in attendance, the Summer Soirée raised more funds than any gala in High Hopes’ 50-year history. It was a powerful night that celebrated the mission of High Hopes while shining a light on the community that makes it all possible. Guests enjoyed local food, live music, a silent auction, and an inspiring paddle raise — all in support of equine-assisted programs that serve individuals with varying abilities. Among the many programs supported by this generosity is High Hopes’ innovative Parkinson’s Program, which brings individuals living with Parkinson’s disease together for movement, and connection alongside our equine partners. The program has become a meaningful source of community for participants, with several of them sharing their stories with guests at the event. Every dollar raised at the Summer Soirée directly supports the life-changing work that happens every day at High Hopes. Thanks to the generosity of local business partners like Reynolds’ Subaru, and the community members who showed up to give and celebrate, that impact will stretch far beyond one summer evening — it will live on in every stride, smile, and connection formed on our campus. We are deeply grateful to be part of the Subaru Love Promise.
From Raffles to Enrichment: How Reynolds' Subaru Helps Flanders Shine - Jess S
Every spring, the Flanders School community in East Lyme, CT comes together for our most anticipated event of the year—the annual Ice Cream Social & Basket Raffle! It’s a joyful evening that brings families, students, and staff outside to celebrate with ice cream scooped by teachers, face painting, music from a live DJ, a delicious food truck, and plenty of fun on the school playground. One of the main attractions is our exciting basket raffle, featuring a wide variety of prizes generously donated by local businesses—like Reynolds Subaru. Their continued support over the past few years has made a meaningful impact. Contributions from community partners like Reynolds Subaru allow us to offer more prizes, which helps boost ticket sales and ultimately raise more funds for our school. Every dollar raised goes directly back into the school to benefit our students and staff, funding enrichment programs and classroom resources. This event is a true highlight of the year, and it wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our local businesses. We are so grateful to Reynolds Subaru for being a part of it and helping us make a difference in our school community!
A Journey of Courage, Growth, and Gratitude - Fenty L
When our client first came to us, she had just fled an abusive relationship. She arrived from out of the area, seeking safety for herself and her children. The abuse was severe—not only was she suffering, but her teenage daughter was also a victim of the violence. The abuser was the client’s husband and the younger children’s father. He made their home a place of fear instead of love. Fleeing that situation took immense strength. She and her children first found safety in our emergency shelter. There, they were able to breathe, feel safe, and begin the process of healing. From the shelter, they transitioned into our supportive transitional housing program. Over the course of two years, the mother worked hard to rebuild their lives. She secured stable employment, and although her income wasn’t quite where she wanted it to be yet, her determination never wavered. She became a model participant—engaged, consistent, and motivating to others. When the time came, she successfully graduated into our rapid rehousing program. Through this, she found an affordable and stable unit where she and her children could continue to heal and thrive. With continued support, she enrolled in additional training to boost her skills and income, all while maintaining her stability and growing independence. This past Mother’s Day was especially meaningful for this resilient family. Thanks to the generosity of our friends at Reynolds’ Subaru, both the mother and her teenage daughter received special gifts that helped make the day unforgettable. In their words: "It was such a special day that we shared. We made it into a family time, creating our self-care day and mini spas that we gave each other. We are so grateful." Those thoughtful gifts became more than just items. They sparked joy, encouraged self-care, and reminded them they are not alone. The family was deeply touched and grateful, sharing that this Mother’s Day was one of their best yet. It was a day of healing, love, and a celebration of how far they’ve come. This story is a testament to the strength of survivors and the importance of continued support. With each new step, this family is not only surviving but thriving.
Share the Love– Hamburg Fair & Reynolds’ Subaru - Sara Q
The Hamburg Fair has been a cherished tradition in Lyme since 1897. For over 120 years, it has brought local communities together to celebrate our agricultural heritage while creating fun-filled experiences enjoyed by generations. Throughout most of these years, the Reynolds family and Reynolds Subaru have been steadfast supporters of the Hamburg Fair, ensuring its continued success. Family members have contributed both as business sponsors and as volunteers in leadership roles. Over its long history, the Hamburg Fairgrounds have stood empty only six times—four years during World War II and two years due to the recent coronavirus pandemic. In 2022, Hayden Reynolds played a leading role in planning the Fair’s return, enhancing the experience with more family-oriented activities, a beer and wine garden, and diverse entertainment. These improvements resulted in record-breaking attendance, securing the future of this beloved event for generations to come. Reynolds Subaru has also “shared the love” through its donation of parking facilities located across from the Fair’s entrance. Each year, the Lyme/Old Lyme Boy Scout Troop 26 manages the space as a paid parking venue for fairgoers, using the proceeds to support troop training activities and special camping excursions. Strengthening and supporting the Boy Scouts helps equip local youth with the skills to become future community leaders. This year, the 122nd Hamburg Fair will take place August 15–17, and we invite you to join us for “MORE FUN, MORE MEMORIES!” The ongoing partnership between Reynolds Subaru and the Hamburg Fair embodies the values of a strong, caring community—one that looks out for its friends and neighbors and continues to thrive for future generations. Thank you, Reynolds Subaru, for your many generations of support!
Old Lyme Town Band Turns 50 with Reynolds' Subaru's Support - Ann L
The Old Lyme Town Band, whose 50 members represent many area towns, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025. The band, under the direction of Richard Chiappetta, was established in 1975 by current member Michele Smith Dickey in anticipation of the bicentennial celebration. Since then, the band has continued to perform numerous concerts in the shoreline area, especially during the summer and holiday seasons. Reynolds' Subaru has supported the band in its endeavors and is a “Maestro” sponsor for the 2025 concerts. Our first concert of this calendar year was held on April 26th, when the band debuted a commissioned piece by Anthony Susi, Impressions of Old Lyme. Mr. Susi based his composition on three paintings owned by the FloGris, formerly the Florence Griswold Museum. Over its 50 years, approximately 700 musicians of all ages and abilities have played with the band, including many multigenerational families. At present, we have four members of the Dickey-Girasoli family (Michele, Mike, Lauren, and Brian); husband and wife Sue and Travis Board; father and son John Listorti Sr. and John Listorti Jr.; Alfredo Herrera and daughter Amelia; as well as Jeff Moore, whose late father played tuba with us. During this spring/summer season, the band is performing an ambitious concert schedule—11 concerts from Memorial Day through August 4th. The anniversary year will conclude with several holiday concerts. New members of all ages are welcome to join us on Monday evenings during the academic year. Our many thanks to Reynolds' Subaru for supporting the Old Lyme Town Band—a band that is much more than a “town” band. -The 50th Anniversary Committee
